SL Capital partners with Oxford Private Equity Institute

19 October 2011

Creates new research position to further the understanding of private equity’s role in the new economy

Edinburgh, 19 October 2011: SL Capital is contributing funds to the Institute over an initial three year period to support the Fellowship. SL Capital will also take a seat on the Institute’s Advisory Board and will provide data, guidance and input to the ongoing research agenda. In addition, the firm will build on its existing relationship with the Institute, supporting its programme of teaching, executive courses and conferences with the overall aim of increasing the awareness and understanding of private equity amongst key investor audiences.

David Currie, CEO of SL Capital Partners, commented: “We are keen to support the important work of the Institute and to share our industry knowledge and expertise with its researchers and students. The private equity industry needs more rigorous analysis and research to convince investors of the merit of the asset class as a way to enhance performance and the quality of their portfolio’s. We believe this is a mutually beneficial association which will strengthen the work of both organisations.”

The Oxford Private Equity Institute was established in 2009 and has since become the leading centre of research for the industry in Europe. At a time when private equity has come under intense scrutiny as a result of ongoing global economic turmoil, the Institute’s research aims to evaluate the risks, returns and characteristics of the asset class and its role in the post-financial global economy.

Professor Tim Jenkinson, Director of the Private Equity Institute said: “It is essential to the industry that there is independent, informed and unbiased research which can inform the work of practitioners, policy makers and others with an interest in private equity. The work of the Institute is hugely valuable in this regard.”

The creation of the post-doctoral research position will enable the Institute to advance its private equity agenda looking specifically at issues such as performance, both on an absolute basis and relative to other asset classes. Whilst already heavily involved in this area, the provision of an additional research position will enable it to strengthen and expand this coverage.

Professor Tim Jenkinson added: “Beyond our research, the wide range of courses and networking opportunities we offer make a significant contribution to the understanding of the private equity community internationally. Our association with SL Capital Partners is an example of the way in which the industry can support such activities and make a valuable contribution to our collective understanding.”
